Effect of Glass Temperature

Almost all the cocktail recipes you find, or the good ones at least, will suggest that you strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  I’ve always wondered how much that really matters.  I mean, you’re pouring an ice cold drink into the glass anyway, does the glass temperature really affect the end temperature?  Seems I’m not the only one who’s been wondering about that.  Frederic over at Cocktail Virgin Slut recently did a full analysis.  In short, chilling your glass is really important to keeping your drink cold as long as possible.

[Update] – Frederic noted in the comments that he has two follow on pieces as well.  Also worth checking out.  Some cool results.

There are also two other parts (I added links to that post) that are part of the series on the interaction of drink temperature and glass temperature and ways of cooling the glass.
