{"id":886,"date":"2009-02-25T20:57:22","date_gmt":"2009-02-26T03:57:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=886"},"modified":"2009-02-25T20:57:22","modified_gmt":"2009-02-26T03:57:22","slug":"muddle-or-shake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=886","title":{"rendered":"Muddle or Shake?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The question has plagued mankind since the development of the Caipirinha.\u00c2\u00a0 Should one muddle the cocktail or shake?\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s the kind of question fights have been started over.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, I couldn&#8217;t let this dilemma go unsolved any longer.\u00c2\u00a0 So I mixed up a Caipirinha show down for the benefit of all of us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"flickr-image\" title=\"Muddle or Shake?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/86318258@N00\/3310018071\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3554\/3310018071_2dba5b5de4.jpg\" alt=\"Muddle or Shake?\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<pre><strong>Caipirinha (Shaken)<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2 oz Cacha\u00c3\u00a7a (Leblon)\r\n1 oz Lime Juice\r\n1\/2 oz Rich Simple Syrup<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre><strong>Caipirinha (Muddled)<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1\/2 Lime cut in Wedges\r\n2 tsp Sugar\r\n2 oz Cacha\u00c3\u00a7a (Leblon)<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>The verdict is a bit of a hard one.\u00c2\u00a0 Both of these varients have their pluses and minuses.\u00c2\u00a0 Certainly both are very tasty and I definitely wouldn&#8217;t turn either down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shaken<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Pro &#8211; Very simple to mix in batches ahead of time or in large quantities<br \/>\nPro &#8211; Tremendously drinkable<br \/>\nCon &#8211; Sourness of the lime covered by simple syrup<br \/>\nCon &#8211; Subtleties of the cacha\u00c3\u00a7a are lost<\/p>\n<p><strong>Muddled<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Pro &#8211; Classic recipe<br \/>\nPro &#8211; Bitterness from peel and oils adds to flavor<br \/>\nPro &#8211; Much more complex flavor<br \/>\nPro &#8211; More interesting presentation<br \/>\nPro &#8211; Cacha\u00c3\u00a7a flavor comes through more<br \/>\nCon &#8211; Longer prep<br \/>\nCon &#8211; Requires muddler<br \/>\nCon &#8211; Need fresh limes<\/p>\n<p>Okay, those last two cons for the muddled recipe are both a stretch.\u00c2\u00a0 You can use damn near anything blunt as a muddler and I&#8217;d certainly hope you were buying fresh limes for this drink anyway.\u00c2\u00a0 So, the final verdict?\u00c2\u00a0 Make the muddled version unless you&#8217;re either making them by the pitcher full or mixing tons and tons of them for a party.<\/p>\n<p>Still worried that you can&#8217;t make this drink due to a lack of muddler?\u00c2\u00a0 Fear not.\u00c2\u00a0 The good folks at Leblon Cacha\u00c3\u00a7a will happily send you a muddler for only the cost of shipping ($2.00).\u00c2\u00a0 I used mine to make the drink you see pictured above.\u00c2\u00a0 You can pick yours up <a title=\"Leblon Cachaca - Free Muddler\" href=\"http:\/\/www.liveloveleblon.com\/muddler\/\" target=\"_blank\">right here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The question has plagued mankind since the development of the Caipirinha.\u00c2\u00a0 Should one muddle the cocktail or shake?\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s the kind of question fights have been started over.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, I couldn&#8217;t let this dilemma go unsolved any longer.\u00c2\u00a0 So I mixed up a Caipirinha show down for the benefit of all of us.
