Grenadine\" href=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=46\" target=\"_blank\">homemade grenadine<\/a> which was a real revelation for me.\u00c2\u00a0 For both of the recipes I whipped up I used Pom juice, which turned out good.\u00c2\u00a0 Certainly a damn sight better than the store bought stuff.\u00c2\u00a0 but, I felt there was still something missing.\u00c2\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t used fresh pomegranantes.\u00c2\u00a0 Fresh fruits always seem to add a brightness that can&#8217;t be obtained with bottled juices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"flickr-image\" title=\"Pomegranate Seeds for Hibiscus Grenadine\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/86318258@N00\/3295063243\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3642\/3295063243_f5c5ea5a0a.jpg\" alt=\"Pomegranate Seeds for Hibiscus Grenadine\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t claim my own lack of fresh ingredients as my only source of inspiration though.\u00c2\u00a0 I got some inspiration from <a title=\"Rookie Libations - Hibiscus Grenadine\" href=\"http:\/\/rookielibations.blogspot.com\/2008\/05\/flirting-with-flora-hibiscus.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rookie Libations<\/a> via <a title=\"Mountain of Crushed Ice - Hibiscus Grenadine\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amountainofcrushedice.com\/?p=2821\" target=\"_blank\">Tiare at a Mountain of Crushed Ice<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Chris has the genius idea of adding some hibiscus to grenadine to deepen the redness of the grenadine and add some floral notes.\u00c2\u00a0 Since my original grenadine recipe called for a tiny addition of orange flower water the additional floral notes in this recipe sounded like just what I was looking for.\u00c2\u00a0 So, in search of hibiscus I did go.<\/p>\n<p>Living in a city centered around fitness and health it was no trouble to find hibiscus last Sunday evening.\u00c2\u00a0 Next up was pomegranates.\u00c2\u00a0 Both Chris and Tiare used fresh fruits, I on the other hand was leaning towards to the lazy side.\u00c2\u00a0 When I arrived at Whole Foods and they had pint tubs of pomegranates pips I knew it was made to be.<\/p>\n<p>I changed up both Chris and Tiare&#8217;s recipes a tiny bit to get the flavor profile I was looking for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"flickr-image\" title=\"Making Hibiscus Grenadine\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/86318258@N00\/3295065347\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3545\/3295065347_a40c220d58.jpg\" alt=\"Making Hibiscus Grenadine\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<pre><strong>Hibiscus Grenadine<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>2 c Sugar\r\n2 c Water\r\n2 c Pomegranate Pips (~2 Fruits)\r\n1 oz Dried Hibiscus Flowers<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1) Combine ingredients in a non-reactive sauce pan.\r\n2) Bring mixture to a boil.\r\n3) Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for another 20 minutes.\r\n4) Turn off heat and allow to cool for about an hour.\r\n5) Strain and bottle.\r\n6) Add 2 oz Grain Alcohol to increase shelf life.<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>How is the flavor?\u00c2\u00a0 To sum it up in a word, amazing.\u00c2\u00a0 The resulting grenadine is less sweet that my previous preferred recipe, but slightly less sour.\u00c2\u00a0 I think this is likely a result of the fresh fruit in place of bottled juice.\u00c2\u00a0 The hibiscus flowers really do add a floral note to this end product and the color is also enriched.\u00c2\u00a0 However, I must admit, the color is really not that much deeper than that of the previous recipe I whipped up.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re going to be making a batch of homemade grenadine on your own I&#8217;d say go for the hibiscus grenadine.\u00c2\u00a0 The flavor is less sweet which allows you to add a little more to cocktails without overwhelming the other ingredients and the floral notes are great.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, early on in CH history I tackled making homemade grenadine which was a real revelation for me.\u00c2\u00a0 For both of the recipes I whipped up I used Pom juice, which turned out good.\u00c2\u00a0 Certainly a damn sight better than the store bought stuff.\u00c2\u00a0 but, I felt there was still something missing.\u00c2\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t used [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[16,61,13],"class_list":["post-873","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ingredients","tag-grenadine","tag-homemade","tag-ingredient"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/873","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=873"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/873\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":875,"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/873\/revisions\/875"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=873"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=873"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=873"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
