{"id":870,"date":"2009-02-17T21:16:30","date_gmt":"2009-02-18T04:16:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=870"},"modified":"2009-02-17T21:16:30","modified_gmt":"2009-02-18T04:16:30","slug":"noilly-prat-dry-vermouth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=870","title":{"rendered":"Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"flickr-image\" title=\"Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth (New-Old Formula)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/86318258@N00\/3288856951\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3438\/3288856951_a4b83c1c02_m.jpg\" alt=\"Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth (New-Old Formula)\" width=\"160\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a>Noilly Prat has just released a brand new recipe for their popular dry vermouth.\u00c2\u00a0 Wait.\u00c2\u00a0 No.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s not right at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Scratch that.<\/p>\n<p>Noilly Prat has discontinued the US version of the dry vermouth that you&#8217;ve been drinking for years.\u00c2\u00a0 In its place, the US will now be partaking of the original 1813 recipe that has always been distributed in Europe.\u00c2\u00a0 The 1813 recipe is sweeter than the Noilly you&#8217;ve gotten used to but I think it&#8217;s better too.\u00c2\u00a0 The color is a bit darker, likely from the barrel aging.\u00c2\u00a0 Noilly ages their dry vermouth for 8 months in large oak casks indoors and then moves them to smaller barrels which further age another year outside.\u00c2\u00a0 In addition to the oakiness and slightly sweeter flavor I think the herbal notes are more forward in the 1813 formula, which is also most welcome.\u00c2\u00a0 Overall I really like this new\/old version.<\/p>\n<p>One gripe though.\u00c2\u00a0 As you can see from the picture at the left the bottle came with a tiny booklet explaining the new (old) product and suggesting some serving options.\u00c2\u00a0 The first is to simply serve it over ice as an aperitif, which I can certainly understand and could go for.\u00c2\u00a0 The second recipe is for the Ultimate Dry Martini Cocktail which calls for 1 part Noilly Prat dry vermouth to 4 parts Grey Goose vodka.\u00c2\u00a0 Now, I realize that this is marketing material and they&#8217;re trying to appeal to the masses, but seriously?\u00c2\u00a0 You&#8217;re going to call a vodka Martini the ulimate Martini in which your vermouth could be used?\u00c2\u00a0 I think they could have done better, but alas, that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m not in marketing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Noilly Prat has just released a brand new recipe for their popular dry vermouth.\u00c2\u00a0 Wait.\u00c2\u00a0 No.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s not right at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Scratch that.
