{"id":814,"date":"2009-01-27T20:03:15","date_gmt":"2009-01-28T03:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=814"},"modified":"2009-01-27T21:58:53","modified_gmt":"2009-01-28T04:58:53","slug":"super-bowl-xliii-drink-4-punch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=814","title":{"rendered":"Super Bowl XLIII Drink #2: Punch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Think of all the parties you&#8217;ve been to in your time.\u00c2\u00a0 I would imagine that at a minimum one of those parties had a large cut glass bowl filled with a an alcoholic concoction.\u00c2\u00a0 Floating in this deliciousness was likely a ring of ice and some fruit slices.\u00c2\u00a0 What was this wonderful elixir you ponder, punch of course.\u00c2\u00a0 <a title=\"Wikipedia - Punch\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Punch_(drink)\" target=\"_blank\">Punch<\/a>, originating from the Hindi word Panch, was originally a drink made from a base spirit, sugar, lemon, water, and tea or spices.\u00c2\u00a0 The word became anglicized to punch in the early 1600&#8217;s and has been used as such since.<\/p>\n<p>There are nearly as many punch recipes as there are people alive today and I can&#8217;t claim that I have a lot of experience with any of them.\u00c2\u00a0 Thankfully there are people on these here interwebs that can offer some suggestions.\u00c2\u00a0 In looking at the recipes they vary in difficulty from very easy (<a title=\"Rocky Mountain Punch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/lifestyle\/food\/2007\/11\/02\/2007-11-02_punch_up_your_festivities_with_oldfashio-2.html?page=1\" target=\"_blank\">Rocky Mountain Punch<\/a>) to quite involved (<a title=\"David Wondrich's Regent's Punch\" href=\"http:\/\/forums.egullet.org\/index.php?showtopic=96574&amp;view=findpost&amp;p=1323123\" target=\"_blank\">David Wondrich&#8217;s Regent&#8217;s Punch<\/a>).\u00c2\u00a0 There are even non-alcoholic recipes, but that&#8217;s for another post.<\/p>\n<p>Pretty much any punch is going to be perfect for your party so long as you have enough for the crowd.\u00c2\u00a0 The recipes range in alcohol content so you could easily make one that could be consumed all day.\u00c2\u00a0 Some of the recipes even have caffeine in them (<a title=\"Saveur - David Wondrich's Rum Punch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.saveur.com\/article\/Drink-Recipes\/David-Wondrichs-Rum-Punch\" target=\"_blank\">David Wondrich&#8217;s Rum Punch<\/a>), so once you&#8217;ve gorged yourself on tasty food you&#8217;ll be able to stay awake for the remainder of the game.\u00c2\u00a0 My thoughts?<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think you can go wrong with either of the recipes by David Wondrich.\u00c2\u00a0 Wondrich is the author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0399532870?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=cockthacke-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0399532870\">Imbibe!<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none !important;
