{"id":76,"date":"2008-07-22T20:23:44","date_gmt":"2008-07-23T03:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=76"},"modified":"2008-07-22T20:23:44","modified_gmt":"2008-07-23T03:23:44","slug":"ingredient-bitters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=76","title":{"rendered":"Ingredient &#8211; Bitters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the best explanations I&#8217;ve heard is that bitters are like spices for cocktails.\u00c2\u00a0 You would never cook certain dishes without spices and the same is true of some cocktails and their bitters.\u00c2\u00a0 Old timers only considered drinks with bitters to be true cocktails.\u00c2\u00a0 The quote on our <a title=\"Cocktail Hacker Mission Page\" href=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?page_id=3\" target=\"_blank\">Mission<\/a> page sums it up nicely.\u00c2\u00a0 A cocktail is &#8220;a stimulating liquor composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 This week&#8217;s cocktail is an excellent example of how bitters can elevate a cocktail from mediocre to wonderful.\u00c2\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t believe me, try a Manhattan without bitters some time.\u00c2\u00a0 But, what exactly are bitters?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/img_4175-1024.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-78 aligncenter\" title=\"Bitters\" src=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/img_4175-1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/img_4175-1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/img_4175-1024-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The page on <a title=\"Wikipedia Page on Bitters\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bitters\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a> gives a great definition.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;A bitters is an alcoholic beverage prepared with herbs and citrus dissolved in alcohol or glycerine and having a bitter or bittersweet flavor.
