{"id":4259,"date":"2014-12-02T17:39:55","date_gmt":"2014-12-03T00:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=4259"},"modified":"2014-12-01T21:07:13","modified_gmt":"2014-12-02T04:07:13","slug":"review-berentzen-bushel-and-barrel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=4259","title":{"rendered":"Review &#8211; Berentzen Bushel and Barrel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For over 250 years <a title=\"Berentzen USA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.berentzenusa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Berentzen<\/a> has been making distilled spirits and specifically apple and other fruit liqueurs. \u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Berentzen - Bushel and Barrel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.berentzenusa.com\/products\/bushel-barrel\" target=\"_blank\">Bushel and Barrel<\/a> is the marriage of their long experience making apple liqueur with the years of tradition and flavor of Kentucky Bourbon. \u00c2\u00a0The result is a apple bourbon liqueur clocking in at 30% ABV.<\/p>\n<p>The color is a light honey\/amber. \u00c2\u00a0The nose is where it really starts to come alive, though. \u00c2\u00a0The aroma is primarily crisp apple with the subtle notes of bourbon &#8211; caramel, vanilla and spice &#8211; rounding out the profile. \u00c2\u00a0The flavor follows\u00c2\u00a0what the aroma started\u00c2\u00a0and with less sweetness than I expected. \u00c2\u00a0This liqueur is truly not cloying like so many are. \u00c2\u00a0The whiskey adds back notes but the apple is really the star here. \u00c2\u00a0I have to add that the apple flavor in Bushel and Barrel is more natural than I&#8217;ve found with other apple liqueurs. \u00c2\u00a0I think it would make a really interesting, slightly more &#8220;grown up&#8221;, <a title=\"Cocktail Hacker - Apple Martini\" href=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=1154\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Martini<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0For me, Bushel and Barrel is best when mixed 1:1 with a nice high-rye bourbon or straight rye. \u00c2\u00a0Something with some spice to play off the sweet apple flavors. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;ve been adding a dash of bitters and making a Bushel and Barrel Old Fashioned that is very tasty and perfect for the fall.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Berentzen Bourbon Old Fashioned by Reese Lloyd, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/reeselloyd\/15734200561\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7552\/15734200561_116657534a.jpg\" alt=\"Berentzen Bourbon Old Fashioned\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<pre><strong>Berentzen Bushel and Barrel Old Fashioned<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1 oz Bourbon or Rye Whiskey\r\n<\/strong><strong>1 oz Berentzen Bushel and Barrel\r\n<\/strong><strong>1-2 Dashes Old Fashioned Bitters<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1) Combine over ice\r\n<\/strong><strong>2) Garnish with a fresh or dried apple slice\r\n<\/strong><strong>3) Drink\r\n<\/strong><strong>4) Repeat<\/strong><\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a0 The product reviewed here was provided to me as a free sample.
