{"id":1809,"date":"2011-05-03T20:40:07","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T03:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=1809"},"modified":"2011-05-03T20:42:28","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T03:42:28","slug":"review-espolon-tequila","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=1809","title":{"rendered":"Review &#8211; Espolon Tequila"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few years back a friend took a vacation to Mexico.\u00c2\u00a0 Naturally, I asked that he bring back native booze.\u00c2\u00a0 The tequila that came back was a bottle of <a title=\"Tequila Espolon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tequilaespolon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Espolon<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 At that point the tequila wasn&#8217;t particularly flashy, but it was tasty.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve spent the last years meting it out to worthy guests and savoring each sip.\u00c2\u00a0 Quite exciting, recently I&#8217;ve seen bottles of El Espolon appearing on the shelves here.\u00c2\u00a0 The new bottles have a very cool Day of the Dead motif and I&#8217;ve been promised that the recipe I enjoyed has stayed the same.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s to hoping that&#8217;s true.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1812\" title=\"Espolon Tequila\" src=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Espolon-Tequila.jpg\" alt=\"Espolon Tequila\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Blanco <\/strong>&#8211; The crystal clear blanco expression of Espolon has a bright, clean agave aroma.\u00c2\u00a0 The flavor has elements of roasted, vegetal agave and very light smokiness.\u00c2\u00a0 I got a light sweetness with just a touch of acidity and flavors reminiscent of stone fruits, cherry in particular.\u00c2\u00a0 Very light hints of spice round out the flavor and the finish is short and clean.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reposado <\/strong>&#8211; The reposado is a light honey color and the aroma is exceedingly subtle.\u00c2\u00a0 It was hard for me to pick out individual aromas but I did get a bit of agave and some citrus coming through.\u00c2\u00a0 In addition there is an interesting dry, earthiness to the aroma.\u00c2\u00a0 The acidity remains balanced by the light sweetness.\u00c2\u00a0 The spice flavors have intensified a bit with the addition of vanilla and caramel.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally, the agave is still present but mellowed and blended harmoniously with the other flavors.\u00c2\u00a0 The finish on this one is equally clean and short.<\/p>\n<p>The reposado is what my friend brought back for me and I can say it&#8217;s the same delightful tequila that I&#8217;ve enjoyed these past years.\u00c2\u00a0 Both of these tequilas have a subtler agave flavor than some others so I&#8217;d suggest you pair them simply with some lime juice and triple sec for a classic <a title=\"CH - Margarita\" href=\"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=409\" target=\"_blank\">Margarita<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 That will let the tequila flavors shine without overpowering their delicate nature.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a0 The product reviewed here was provided to me as a free sample.
