{"id":1477,"date":"2010-05-04T18:06:37","date_gmt":"2010-05-05T01:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=1477"},"modified":"2010-05-04T18:06:37","modified_gmt":"2010-05-05T01:06:37","slug":"mimosa-lovehate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cocktailhacker.com\/?p=1477","title":{"rendered":"Mimosa &#8211; Love\/Hate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My relationship with the Mimosa I think can be summed up as love\/hate, though not in the way you&#8217;re thinking.\u00c2\u00a0 You see, I deeply love Mimosas.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet, at the same time, I hate telling people that.\u00c2\u00a0 That statement conjures images of accessories such as small dogs and man bags.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, I call BS on that.\u00c2\u00a0 The Mimosa is a damn fine cocktail and, like other &#8220;not-so-manly&#8221; mixes that I&#8217;ve tasted in the past, it deserves respect.\u00c2\u00a0 But, since I&#8217;m running on a compressed schedule this week because I&#8217;m sampling a few cocktails I kept this round of experimentation brief.\u00c2\u00a0 Let&#8217;s get started with the recipe from Regan&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Joy of Mixology<\/span>.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>Mimosa (Joy of Mixology)<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre><strong>1\/2 oz Triple Sec\r\n1 1\/2 oz Orange Juice\r\n3 1\/2 oz Champagne<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre><strong>1) Build the drink in the order listed\r\n2) Garnish with an Orange Slice\r\n<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Mimosa by ReeseCLloyd, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/reeselloyd\/4580019116\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3322\/4580019116_ed00657e1a.jpg\" alt=\"Mimosa\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I mixed it, I photographed it, I sampled it and then, as per my usual, I wanted to tweak it.\u00c2\u00a0 As written the recipe is good, but it&#8217;s too sweet for my taste.\u00c2\u00a0 Regan mandates that the triple sec is absolute required.\u00c2\u00a0 I say nay.\u00c2\u00a0 The triple sec doesn&#8217;t really add much to the flavor profile (it&#8217;s just another layer of orange).\u00c2\u00a0 What it does add is additional sweetness.\u00c2\u00a0 I prefer a drier Mimosa, so my choice was clear, drop the triple sec and move on.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>Mimosa (Cocktail Hacker)<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre><strong>2 oz Orange Juice\r\n3 1\/2 oz Champagne\r\n<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre><strong>1) Build the drink in the order listed\r\n2) Garnish with an Orange Slice<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>One last point to make before I move on to brunches unknown.\u00c2\u00a0 Champagne, or more correctly sparkling wine, is key to this drink.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s a strong pull with these types of drinks to pour in crap wine and call it good.\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t do it!\u00c2\u00a0 Seriously!\u00c2\u00a0 No, you don&#8217;t need to be topping your orange juice with Kristal either, but you should use something you&#8217;re willing to drink on its own.
