Seeing as we’re coming in to summer it seems only right that I look at more highball drinks. You know them and I would certainly hope you love them. Well, at least some of them. When made right these simple cocktails can really be a perfect drink for the summer.
On that note, it’s been raining in Boulder pretty much non-stop since Friday afternoon. Truly summery no? It’s not been anything particularly major, but it does seem like a fitting start to this week’s cocktail, the Dark and Stormy.
Dark and Stormy
2 oz Dark Rum 3 oz Ginger Beer Lime Wedge for Garnish
1) Build in a Highball glass over ice
One slight problem. I’ve not been able to track down ginger beer proper. I’ve found a lot of different ginger ales, which should likely make due in a pinch, but I’d really like to find the real deal. The good news is, it can also be made at home. Stay tuned for progress on that one.

Nice one! The dark and stormy’s been my new favorite drink since a friend turned me on to it last fall! Apparently it’s a big WASPy / New Englandy thing.
As for the ginger beer, I’ve had good luck with Regatta (there was a different kind I liked better, but I forget the name). I doubt it’s available in CO, but it seems you can order it online, if you’re really desperate. Much better to make your own, though.
Keep up the good work! Hope you’re doing well…
I contemplated Regatta, but I’m trying to decide if it’s worth $40 to get 12 of them.
In the mean time round one of homemade went down last night. I think I nearly ruined my carbonator, but I got it cleaned up in time. Planning to give it a first taste test tonight.
Goya markets a ginger beer which I know I’ve seen next to the Malta in the ethnic section of one of my local super markets. Take a look in your mexican food aisles.
Very cool. Thanks for the tip Alan. I’ll be sure to check it out.
Reeds makes a very tasty ginger beer in 4 packs. I look forward to mixing one of these. The only drink I have used Ginger Beer in is the Bufala Negra.
