Here is my usual method. I keep all my syrups, etc in squeeze bottles so I mix the sugar and water in the bottle and shake. Allow it to sit for about 10 minutes and repeat. It usually takes 2 shakings to dissolve table sugar and about 5 - 6 to get the demerara fully dissolved. You can definitely speed the process by heating the mixture. As long as you don't over heat you shouldn't see any loss of flavor. The demerara will fully dissolve without heat it just takes time. Here is my usual method.
